Predominantly a still life artist, Eleanor Driscoll
also paints landscapes and seascapes. Her work appeals to
many art enthusiansts because they depict the familiar feeling
of objects and environments. Each time, she imparts the pleasure
she experienced when first viewing these particular subjects.
She is greatly influenced by the Old Dutch and Flemish masters.
"I choose oil as my medium because I like to
use oil to build up glazes," she says. "It gives a feeling
of depth and solidity; overlapping and working into the painting
rather than drawing edges."
Eleanor studied painting for many years with
the late Helen Van Wyk (teacher, friend, and mentor); the
late Jack Callahan; the late Charles Vickery , and Don Stone.
She exhibited in several shows and received numerous awards
over the past forty years of professional painting. The Grumbacher
publication "Palette Talk" featured Mrs. Driscoll. She also
assisted the editor on a revised edition of a book on floral
painting by Helen Van Wyk.
She is an artist member of the North Shore Art
Association and The Newburyport Art Association. Her paintings
can be found in many private collections.
